The Emotional Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job”, improves the size and shape of the nose. The procedure can remove a hump, alter the size of the nasal tip, and straighten the nose. While rhinoplasty is typically used to correct a flaw it can also have strong emotional benefits.

Most people who undergo rhinoplasty had contemplated the decision for years. Out of those who have had rhinoplasty, the majority is middle-aged or older. With that being said, many people endure years of embarrassment as a result of real or perceived imperfections of the nose. These same people believe that rhinoplasty will bring them happiness and more confidence.

Our society puts an emphasis on appearance, and consequently people are apt to judge others and hold them to the societal standard of beauty. This often leads to self-scrutiny, or the desire to meet this beauty standard. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are those that have realistic expectations.

Rhinoplasty can help people who are self-conscious about their nose by improving the self-esteem and confidence. Many people report feeling better after undergoing rhinoplasty. If you have realistic expectations, rhinoplasty can help to improve emotional aspects immensely.

Dr. Kassir is a triple board certified surgeon who has performed thousands of rhinoplasty surgeries for his patients and is considered to be one of the best Rhinoplasty surgeons in New Jersey and NYC.

Preparing For Rhinoplasty

Before scheduling your rhinoplasty, you should meet with Dr. Ramtin Kassir to discuss if surgery is the best option for you. This meeting typically includes the discussion of:

  • Your medical history. This includes nasal obstruction, surgeries and any medications that you take. If you have hemophilia, you may not be a candidate for rhinoplasty.
  • A physical examination. A complete physical examination will be completed, including blood tests. The skin will be inspected inside and outside of the nose. The examination ultimately will determine what changes need to be made, and how your physical features will affect the results.
  • Pictures. In the office, pictures of the nose will be taken from various angles. Computer software may be used to manipulate the pictures to display possible outcomes. The pictures are also used for before-and-after purposes, and to guide aesthetic goals.
  • Expectations. Dr. Ramtin Kassir will discuss your motivations and goals with you. He can explain what rhinoplasty can and can’t do for you, and the nature of your results.

Before your nose job surgery, you should avoid any inflammatory medications (Advil, Motrin, and others), as it will increase bleeding. If you smoke, you should consider quitting. Smoking inhibits the healing process and increases the likeliness of contracting infection.
